Car hire in Bodrum works differently from a typical resort. This is a peninsula with a dozen distinct zones, and without a car most guests quickly feel limited to just one beach. Bodrum City, Gümbet, Bitez, Yalıkavak, Türkbükü, Gümüşlük — each has its own character and atmosphere.

“Bodrum is interesting because of the peninsula. Morning octopus in Gümüşlük, an afternoon on the beach in Bitez, the marina in Yalıkavak in the evening. Without a car you can’t put that day together.”

Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV) is 35 km from Bodrum City centre via the D330 — about 45 minutes. There are no toll roads on the peninsula itself: the HGS sticker is already on the car, but you’ll only need it for a longer road trip towards Izmir or Ephesus.

Where to pick up the car

In Bodrum there are two main ways to get your car: collect it at the airport or have it delivered straight to your hotel. Given the distance from BJV to many resort areas, delivery often turns out to be the more convenient choice.

Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV)

BJV is in Milas, 35 km from Bodrum City centre along the D330 (45 minutes outside peak times). To Türkbükü it’s 40 km / 50 minutes; to Yalıkavak Marina — 50 km / 60 minutes; to Turgutreis — 60 km / 70 minutes; to Gümüşlük — 65 km / 75 minutes. In the terminal you’ll find all the big international names (Sixt, Avis, Hertz, Europcar, Enterprise) plus strong local operators (Avec, Surprice, Garenta, Borsen, Çakar). According to momondo, around 81 rental companies serve BJV in total.

Hotel and villa delivery

Bodrum City, Gümbet, Bitez and Ortakent — usually free. Yalıkavak, Türkbükü, Gölköy, Torba and Gündoğan — free or €10–20. Gümüşlük, Akyarlar, Çiftlik and remote villas — €20–40 depending on distance.

“If you’ve had a long flight and your hotel is in Türkbükü or Yalıkavak, it’s often smarter to take a transfer, rest up, and have the car delivered the next day ready for your planned day trips.”

Vietoj "Škoda Scala" man davė "Toyota Corolla 2022".

The peninsula itself is already a perfect route — most guests cover five or six different zones in a week. Beyond it there are also some excellent day-trip options.

“The standard week in Bodrum looks like this: the first two days exploring the peninsula (Yalıkavak, Türkbükü, Gümüşlük), one day for Ephesus, and another for the Didyma–Miletus–Priene circuit. The car pays for itself in just two or three days.”

Ephesus and Selçuk are 180 km / 3 hours each way via the D330 and D550. It’s a long day, but perfectly doable: leave at 7 a.m. before the heat and crowds, visit Ephesus and the Temple of Artemis, and you’re back by 8 p.m. The Didyma–Miletus–Priene ancient circuit is the most underrated route: only 70–100 km, a full day among the ruins of three Ionian cities with lunch by Lake Bafa or in Akköy.

Pamukkale is 250 km / 3 hours — tiring as a day trip, so most people stay overnight. Izmir is 250 km / 3 hours on the O-31/O-32 motorway. Çeşme and Alaçatı are 280 km / 3.5 hours and also better with an overnight. Heading west, Marmaris is 170 km and Antalya 480 km — that’s proper road-trip territory.

“Bodrum to Kos is a story of its own. Leave the car at Bodrum Cruise Port (~₺100 a day) and travel as a foot passenger for €24–26 or grab the €30 day-trip ticket. Hire insurance doesn’t cover Greece.”

Automobilio nuomos kaina Bodrumo oro uoste priklauso nuo sezono ir nuomos trukmės.

Bodrum is a relaxed region for foreign drivers. The roads on the peninsula are well paved and clearly marked, with none of the switchbacks you find in Marmaris. There are no toll roads on the peninsula — you’ll only need the HGS sticker if you head out onto the O-31/O-32 motorway towards Izmir.

Premium and luxury fleet

Bodrum offers the strongest premium and luxury hire market on the Turkish coast after Istanbul. Mercedes E/S, BMW 5/7, Range Rover Vogue/Evoque, Porsche Cayenne and Taycan are standard with specialist operators (Borsen, Çakar, Sixt Premium). Luxury starts from $56 a day in the off-season and reaches $183 in June. For an S-class or Range Rover Vogue you need to be 28+ with 3+ years’ experience.

“If you’re planning on a Mercedes S or Range Rover Vogue, book 4–6 weeks ahead of peak season. The deposit for luxury cars is usually €3,000–5,000, and up to €10,000 for supercars. You’ll need a credit card with a decent limit.”

Convertibles and parking

Bodrum is the only Turkish resort with a proper selection of convertibles: Mercedes E-Cabrio, BMW 4 and 2 Cabrio, Mini Cooper Cabrio and occasionally a Porsche Boxster. Demand is highest from June to September, so book 4–6 weeks in advance. In Bodrum City centre, İSPARK parking is ₺25–50 per hour; at Yalıkavak Marina it’s ₺50–100 per day. Premium hotels offer free parking for guests.

Dažniausi klausimai

How long from Dalaman to Bodrum?

About 240 km and 2.5–3 hours along the road around the Gulf of Gökova. The route is scenic, with switchback sections in places. Many travellers deliberately choose to fly into DLM and take the drive themselves rather than use a long coach transfer.

BJV or DLM — which airport for Bodrum?

BJV (Milas-Bodrum) is the local airport, 20 to 40 minutes from most hotels. DLM (Dalaman) handles more European routes but is 2.5 to 3 hours from Bodrum along a scenic road around the Gulf of Gökova. BJV is easier if the schedule fits; otherwise the DLM drive becomes a coastal start to the trip.

Can the car be delivered to Turgutreis or Yalıkavak?

Yes — hotel or apartment delivery is common for the further villages of the peninsula. The car is brought to Turgutreis, Gümüşlük, Yalıkavak or to the central marina in Bodrum and collected from the same point at the end of the rental, with no return transfer needed.

Where to park near the marina and the old town?

In central Bodrum, around the Castle of St Peter and the marina, kerbside parking is limited. Plan straight for a paid car park, particularly in the evening during high season — the cafés, restaurants and night life concentrate by the sea and street spaces fill up almost immediately.

What should I know about the road to Datça?

The Bodrum-Datça road runs through switchbacks and is considered one of the most beautiful on the Aegean. The drive takes 1.5 to 2 hours. The narrow mountain sections work for any car, but a steady pace is the right approach. Filling stations are scarce on this stretch — best to refuel beforehand.

How long from Bodrum to Ephesus?

Around 230 km and 3.5 hours each way. A one-day trip with an early start. Ephesus is one of the best-preserved classical sites in the world; a proper visit takes 3–4 hours. Parking at the entrance is free, entry is around $25 per adult.

Is a hire car worth it on a yacht-based trip?

Often, yes. The car-and-yacht combination is a standard pattern in Bodrum. A morning drive to a distant bay, parking at the jetty, then an afternoon out at sea on the boat. The car saves the first half of the day and gives flexibility on which marina you launch from. Worth confirming jetty parking in advance.

Which class of car suits the peninsula villages?

A compact or saloon with an automatic gearbox is the right choice for most routes. The roads between Turgutreis, Gümüşlük and Yalıkavak are narrow and winding, and a larger car becomes more burden than asset. A crossover is only worth it if rough tracks down to wilder bays are on the plan.

One-way from Bodrum to Antalya or Istanbul?

Yes — both are standard. The relocation fee depends on distance: typically from $200 for Bodrum–Antalya and from $300 for Bodrum–Istanbul. Cars with the one-way option go faster in summer, so booking ahead is sensible.

Do I need a crossover for the peninsula bays?

Not for the standard tourist routes — most peninsula roads work fine for a compact or saloon. A crossover helps only on the gravel tracks down to wilder, less-developed bays. For Turgutreis, Yalıkavak, Gümüşlük and the central villages, a regular car is enough.

What does Bodrum car hire cost across the year?

Bodrum is a summer town. June to September is peak: economy from $35–45 per day, midsize from $50–70. Shoulder seasons (April-May, October-November) are 30–50% lower. Winter has minimum stock but minimum prices — economy from $15. Booking earlier is better for July and August.

Is the BJV airport meet quick?

Yes — BJV is small, with no long terminal walks. The supplier meets you by flight number at the exit or the nearby parking, and the contract is signed there. From landing to driving away typically takes 15 to 20 minutes — among the quickest airport meets in Turkey.
