Car hire in Bodrum is what turns a peninsula of a dozen distinct zones into a single holiday. Bodrum-Sity, Gümbet, Bitez, Yalıkavak, Türkbükü, Gümüşlük — each one has its own crowd, its own beach, its own dinner. Without a car you usually see one of them and call it the trip.
A guest hired in Bodrum-Sity at 9, ate octopus in Gümüşlük at 1, swam off Bitez at 4 and was at Yalıkavak Marina by sunset. One car, four villages, no transfers.
Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV) sits 35 km from the centre of Bodrum-Sity along the D330 — roughly 45 minutes. The peninsula itself has no toll roads. The HGS sticker is already on the car and only comes into play if you push north towards Izmir or Ephesus.
Where to pick up the car — BJV and peninsula delivery
Two main ways to collect a car in Bodrum: at the airport or with delivery to your hotel. Because of the distance from BJV to many resort zones, delivery is often the easier option.
Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV)
BJV is in Milas, 35 km from Bodrum-Sity centre via the D330 (45 minutes off-peak). To Türkbükü — 40 km / 50 minutes. To Yalıkavak Marina — 50 km / 60 minutes. Turgutreis is 60 km / 70 minutes, Gümüşlük 65 km / 75 minutes. The terminal has every major international chain alongside the strong locals (Avec, Surprice, Garenta, Borsen, Çakar). About 81 operators feed BJV in total.
Hotel and villa delivery
Bodrum-Sity, Gümbet, Bitez and Ortakent — usually free. Yalıkavak, Türkbükü, Gölköy, Torba and Gündoğan — free or €10–20. Gümüşlük, Akyarlar, Çiftlik and remote villas — €20–40 by distance.
A couple landed at BJV at 1 a.m. with a Türkbükü booking. They took a transfer, slept until ten, and had the car delivered to the lobby at noon — much saner than driving a back road in the dark on no sleep.
Delivery to Bodrum's premium hotels and marinas
The peninsula is known for premium resorts in remote spots — Göltürkbükü, Kaplankaya, Barbaros Bay. Local Bodrum and Yalıkavak specialists work with all the main ones.
Premium hotels
Mandarin Oriental Bodrum (Göltürkbükü), Six Senses Kaplankaya, Maxx Royal Bodrum, Kempinski Hotel Barbaros Bay, Le Méridien Bodrum, Caresse, Lujo Hotel, The Bodrum EDITION, Doria Hotel Yacht Club, Hilton Bodrum Türkbükü Resort. Delivery is a standard option, usually €10–20 depending on distance from Bodrum-Sity.
Yacht-to-rental
If you're arriving by gulet or blue cruise, the car can be brought straight to Yalıkavak Marina, Bodrum Cruise Port or the D-Marin slip. This is a niche Bodrum specialty: no other Turkish port runs this kind of service at the same level.
A family at Six Senses Kaplankaya didn't want a transfer back to BJV at all. The car arrived at the lobby on day three, stayed parked at the resort, and the supplier collected it on the morning of departure. No driving in the dark, no return logistics.
Where to drive from Bodrum
The peninsula is a route in itself — five or six zones is a comfortable week. Beyond it, a handful of day trips are worth the early start.
Ephesus and Selçuk sit 180 km away, three hours via the D330 and D550. Leave at 7 a.m. ahead of the heat, do Ephesus and the Temple of Artemis, back by 8 p.m. The Didyma–Miletus–Priene ancient triangle is the most underrated trip on the page: 70–100 km, a full day among three Ionian cities, with lunch by Lake Bafa.
A couple from Manchester drove the Didyma loop on a Tuesday — empty ruins, fresh sea bass at the lake, home for dinner. They'd booked Ephesus for the Friday and said the quiet day was the better one.
Pamukkale is 250 km / 3 hours; doable as a day trip but tiring, so most stay overnight. Izmir is 250 km / 3 hours via the O-31/O-32 motorway. Çeşme and Alaçatı are 280 km / 3.5 hours, better with an overnight. Heading west you have Marmaris at 170 km and Antalya at 480 km — that's full road-trip territory.
Bodrum to Kos is its own story. Park at Bodrum Cruise Port (~₺100/day) and walk on as a foot passenger for €24–26, or buy a €30 day-trip ticket from Turyol, Turkish Sealines or Bodrum Express Lines. Hire insurance is void in Greece, so don't try to take the car across.

What to know about driving in Bodrum
Bodrum is a calm region for a foreign driver. The peninsula roads are paved and marked, with no switchbacks like Marmaris. There are no toll roads on the peninsula — you'll only need HGS on the O-31/O-32 motorway towards Izmir.
Premium and luxury fleet
Bodrum has the strongest premium hire market on the Turkish coast outside Istanbul. Mercedes E and S-Class, BMW 5 and 7 Series, Range Rover Vogue and Evoque, Porsche Cayenne and Taycan — that's the standard set with specialist operators like Borsen and Çakar, plus the premium fleets of the major international chains. Luxury starts at $56/day off-peak and climbs to $183 in June. For an S-Class or a Range Rover Vogue you need to be 28+ with three years' experience.
A guest planning a Mercedes S-Class for Bodrum-Cup week booked four weeks out and still nearly missed it — there were two left across the peninsula. The S and the Range Rover Vogue go first; assume €3,000–5,000 deposit, supercar up to €10,000, credit card with the headroom to match.
Convertibles and parking
Bodrum is the only Turkish resort with a real cabriolet fleet: Mercedes E-Cabrio, BMW 4 and 2 Cabrio, Mini Cooper Cabrio, occasionally a Porsche Boxster. Demand peaks June–September; book 4–6 weeks ahead. Bodrum-Sity İSPARK runs at ₺25–50/hour; Yalıkavak Marina ₺50–100/day. Premium hotels include free guest parking.
