It went badly, I couldn't rent a car because they asked me to pay by card and wouldn't accept cash. So I had to rent a car elsewhere. In addition, they brought another car altogether, a Citroen with a box, it's not clear why 🤦♂️.

The rental went well, thank you! A convenient site where it is easy to book a car, unlike many other usual resources for renting a car, where you need a foreign card, large deposits and so on. And here - you book in rubles (a small amount of prepayment) and pay the main amount in cash in the office of the rental company. After booking, the rental company contacted me to clarify the details. I was met at the airport and taken back - after handing over the car. Everything was quick, convenient, and there were no problems.

Of the good: - expectations of the car matched the offer; - prompt response to messages on watsapp upon arrival at the airport; - quick transfer from the airport to the pickup site; - attentive and polite staff; - possibility to leave a deposit in cash. From the unpleasant: - Long wait (over half an hour) for the trasfer from the car return site to the airport (didn't expect to spend that much time on it). From personal inflated expectations: - The employees of the pickup point incorrectly oriented in the fuel consumption, as a result there were 10 liters in the tank (it would be great if the extra fuel would be compensated by a reduction in the toll road payment).

I left an application for a Fiat, but the lessor provided a Renault symbol citing the fact that it is the same. Naturally, there was no time to argue and we had to take it. Everything would have gone well, if one day the battery did not die when we were on a distant beach. We pushed the car to the nearest restaurant where, to our luck, there was an English-speaking employee. He summoned one of his friends with a car and they gave us a light. As the proceedings showed - the battery died due to opening the car door with the key (although the landlord insisted that I had forgotten to turn off the headlights - even if that was true, what kind of battery must the car have if it died in an hour with the headlights on)? Well the process of returning the car took a long time - waiting for it in the parking lot. good thing we weren't late for our flight

What you should know before driving in Turkey
Turkey drives on the right. Roads are excellent, signs are duplicated in English, and international road markings apply — though the stop sign reads "DUR". Local drivers can be assertive, so stay calm and attentive. Speed limits: 50 km/h in towns, 90 km/h on rural roads, 120 km/h on motorways. Blood alcohol limit is 0.50 promille. Foreign drivers can use their home licence for up to 6 months (IDP required for non-Latin alphabet countries).

Toll roads
Turkey's motorways (otoyol) and all Bosphorus crossings are tolled electronically via HGS stickers — no cash accepted at the gates. Most TakeCars rental cars have HGS fitted; just tell your owner to activate it before your trip. Tolls are deducted from your deposit on return. Free alternative roads exist parallel to most motorways if you prefer to skip tolls.

Fuel and parking
Fuel costs around 55–63 TRY per litre (~$1.40 USD) for both gasoline and diesel. Stations (Petrol Ofisi, Shell, BP, Opet) are plentiful — most have attendants, and you can say "dolu depo" for a full tank. In Istanbul, use paid garages (10–20 TRY/hour) or free lots near shopping centres; on-street parking is managed by attendants in yellow vests. Coastal resorts have easier parking but it fills up in summer.

Insurance on TakeCars
Every car includes basic third-party liability (TPL) at no extra cost. You can upgrade to CDW, Super CDW, or Full Damage Waiver (FDW) for near-zero excess — cars with FDW are tagged "zero deposit." Staying connected
Three providers: Turkcell (best coverage for road trips), Vodafone, and Turk Telekom. Tourist SIMs cost 1,000–1,700 TRY (~€26–45) for 28 days — buy from official shops, not street sellers. Free Wi-Fi is available at airports, cafés, and shopping centres. Download offline maps before heading into mountain areas.
