There was some miscommunication at first, apparently not all the information was received, but we sorted it out, I showed them the booking voucher with the price and what I ordered, and everything was resolved. There was no Renault Megane Sedan, but they gave us a better car - a brand new Alfa Romeo).

It went well, even though it ended up being a Reno Taliant. But the website said Fiat Egea Urban or similar, so no complaints. Unfortunately, the staff did not speak English at all, they also, citing a ban, did not agree to take me not to the airport, but the same distance into the city so I could take a bus to the bus station. But they were very kind and called me a cab. Other than that, everything was fine.

Everything is normal. We were met without a sign and when we handed in the car, we also had to look for an employee. We liked the car very much, it was new and powerful, we enjoyed driving it on the mountain roads. The only thing we didn't like was the checkout process, for some reason it was very long. It is clear that the human factor. The delay was still because they had a different rental price for us. Then we decided to rent a car at the price we booked. We rented out quickly and without any problems. All in all we liked it.

We had trouble getting away at night in the dark. The car and windows were wet and the windshield wipers were completely worn out. Other than that, everything went well. Also the invoice was received neatly. The Fiat Egea will not be our next choice. The engine is too light, no automatic or "distance control" We would prefer a Megane, automatic, with camera or distance control. If you can offer this, we would love to get back to you in September.

What you should know before driving in Turkey
Turkey drives on the right. Roads are excellent, signs are duplicated in English, and international road markings apply — though the stop sign reads "DUR". Local drivers can be assertive, so stay calm and attentive. Speed limits: 50 km/h in towns, 90 km/h on rural roads, 120 km/h on motorways. Blood alcohol limit is 0.50 promille. Foreign drivers can use their home licence for up to 6 months (IDP required for non-Latin alphabet countries).

Toll roads
Turkey's motorways (otoyol) and all Bosphorus crossings are tolled electronically via HGS stickers — no cash accepted at the gates. Most TakeCars rental cars have HGS fitted; just tell your owner to activate it before your trip. Tolls are deducted from your deposit on return. Free alternative roads exist parallel to most motorways if you prefer to skip tolls.

Fuel and parking
Fuel costs around 55–63 TRY per litre (~$1.40 USD) for both gasoline and diesel. Stations (Petrol Ofisi, Shell, BP, Opet) are plentiful — most have attendants, and you can say "dolu depo" for a full tank. In Istanbul, use paid garages (10–20 TRY/hour) or free lots near shopping centres; on-street parking is managed by attendants in yellow vests. Coastal resorts have easier parking but it fills up in summer.

Insurance on TakeCars
Every car includes basic third-party liability (TPL) at no extra cost. You can upgrade to CDW, Super CDW, or Full Damage Waiver (FDW) for near-zero excess — cars with FDW are tagged "zero deposit." Evgenii 🇷🇺 highlighted this: his Istanbul rental came with no deposit, full insurance, and unlimited mileage — everything upfront.
Staying connected
Three providers: Turkcell (best coverage for road trips), Vodafone, and Turk Telekom. Tourist SIMs cost 1,000–1,700 TRY (~€26–45) for 28 days — buy from official shops, not street sellers. Free Wi-Fi is available at airports, cafés, and shopping centres. Download offline maps before heading into mountain areas.
