Where to rent a car in Turkey

Citroen C4 X in Turkey
All in all, good. However, they did not bring me a Citroen, but an Opel Crossland. Overall, it made no difference to me. The car was new and clean. Didn't cause any problems. Except that the almost empty tank at delivery is very unaccustomed. It was a little bit difficult to get together with the person who gave the car. In the first place, there were intermediate intermediaries, in the second person hardly spoke English (I ended up calling so that it was faster to agree). The contract is in Turkish, the employee who gave the car did not answer very well even with an interpreter and was in a hurry - I never realized whether my conditions for hull insurance were in line with the order or not. On the car itself - I had to pump up the wheels, good thing there is such an opportunity at gas stations. Among the unexpected surprises - summer tires in January (can I write it off to the region of issue?), which limited my choice of travel destinations (Cappadocia was canceled immediately due to snowfall). I'd also like to know in advance that you have to pay for parking at the airport (antalya) when leaving the airport. Little chance people won't have a card/liras at the moment.

Basically everything went well: the car was delivered and picked up on time, the registration was quick. The car was excellent, new. It was disappointing that the car was delivered with an empty tank and a low fuel light on. I had to change money at the airport at an unfavorable rate to refuel on the way from the airport to the city. I also had to pay for toll roads when handing over the car - it's normal, but it would be good to bring some printout with expenses, or send it to watsap, not just to name a figure. Thank you!

Everything went well: the representative met me at Istanbul Airport in the parking lot, he was on the phone, so it was quick to find him. Then he took us to the office, where I signed the contract, paid the balance and received the car. The car itself was certainly not in the best shape (all defects were documented) and in minimal equipment (aux output and Bluetooth were missing, I could not put my music). On the road, the car did not let me down, even a little pleased with the low fuel consumption (1000 km on one tank passed). I rented in another city, in Antalya, I wrote the address of the office near the airport, took the car without problems and EVEN did not take money from me for travel on toll roads (and I drove half of Turkey on them). Drove me to the terminal. Rating = a solid 4+ (I took without a deposit, but with extra payment for delivery = $200+-).

Everything went perfectly! The car was delivered to SAW on time. They took us to the nearest normal gas station. There everything was inspected and signed. I filled up. And then we were picked up in the same time in the boarding area at SAW. Very convenient! Thank you very much! (Alas there are no photos of the car and us against the background of the car, we are not interested in such photos and therefore we do not have them, but the car was in full shape, according to the description). I recommend booking!

What you should know before driving in Turkey
Turkey drives on the right. Roads are excellent, signs are duplicated in English, and international road markings apply — though the stop sign reads "DUR". Local drivers can be assertive, so stay calm and attentive. Speed limits: 50 km/h in towns, 90 km/h on rural roads, 120 km/h on motorways. Blood alcohol limit is 0.50 promille. Foreign drivers can use their home licence for up to 6 months (IDP required for non-Latin alphabet countries).

Toll roads
Turkey's motorways (otoyol) and all Bosphorus crossings are tolled electronically via HGS stickers — no cash accepted at the gates. Most TakeCars rental cars have HGS fitted; just tell your owner to activate it before your trip. Tolls are deducted from your deposit on return. Free alternative roads exist parallel to most motorways if you prefer to skip tolls.

Fuel and parking
Fuel costs around 55–63 TRY per litre (~$1.40 USD) for both gasoline and diesel. Stations (Petrol Ofisi, Shell, BP, Opet) are plentiful — most have attendants, and you can say "dolu depo" for a full tank. In Istanbul, use paid garages (10–20 TRY/hour) or free lots near shopping centres; on-street parking is managed by attendants in yellow vests. Coastal resorts have easier parking but it fills up in summer.

Insurance on TakeCars
Every car includes basic third-party liability (TPL) at no extra cost. You can upgrade to CDW, Super CDW, or Full Damage Waiver (FDW) for near-zero excess — cars with FDW are tagged "zero deposit." Staying connected
Three providers: Turkcell (best coverage for road trips), Vodafone, and Turk Telekom. Tourist SIMs cost 1,000–1,700 TRY (~€26–45) for 28 days — buy from official shops, not street sellers. Free Wi-Fi is available at airports, cafés, and shopping centres. Download offline maps before heading into mountain areas.
