Why rent a car in Turkey?

Turkey stretches across two continents and over 780,000 square kilometres of coastline, mountains, ancient ruins, and inland valleys. Buses and domestic flights connect the big cities, but the places that make Turkey unforgettable — the lunar landscape of Cappadocia at dawn, hidden coves along the Lycian coast, the mountain roads of eastern Anatolia — sit beyond any bus timetable. A rental car turns a resort holiday into a proper road trip.

Turkey also happens to be one of the easiest countries to drive in. Roads are well-maintained, lane markings are clear, and signs at every junction are duplicated in English. Even after several hours behind the wheel, you won't feel worn out — the infrastructure is built for comfortable long-distance driving. On TakeCars, every listing shows real photos of the actual car, transparent pricing with insurance included, and reviews from travellers who've driven the same vehicle on the same roads. You're renting from a local person — not standing in an airport queue hoping for the best.

What travelers actually do with their rental cars

🚗 Roman 🇷🇺 took his first rental on a trip through Trabzon, Kars, and Erzurum — eastern Turkey in the dead of winter — and called the experience "qualitative and efficient"

🚗 Evgenii 🇷🇺 picked up at Istanbul airport and drove over 800 km to the Aegean Sea and back, burning just 5 litres per 100 km in a diesel Renault Clio — "no deposit, full insurance, and unlimited mileage is great"

🚗 Natalia 🇷🇺 covered 2,000 km through multiple Turkish cities in a diesel Hyundai Accent — "the car did not let us down"

🚗 Mikhail 🇷🇺 drove from Istanbul to Fethiye and back — about 2,500 km in an Opel Combo

🚗 Andrey 🇹🇷 needed a car to "travel a huge distance in Turkey" — even though he arrived late at night, the team was waiting for him

🚗 Anna 🇷🇺 picked up in Antalya and dropped off in Mersin — "it's mega convenient!"

🚗 Sergei 🇷🇺 rented for a trip to Cappadocia — not his first time using TakeCars — "just like last time, everything went fine"

What owners have done for renters

🤝 Danil 🇷🇺 booked an economy car and got a Renault Megane instead — a higher class, no extra charge: "they gave it to me at the airport, which was very convenient"

🤝 Igor 🇷🇺 ordered a Nissan Qashqai, received a Peugeot of similar class — "the car was new, clean, with winter tires. Service is organized perfectly: brought and picked up on time"

🤝 Iana 🇷🇺 got upgraded from a Dacia Sandero to an Opel Mokka, and the owner calmly accepted a last-minute pickup address change

🤝 Vladimir 🇷🇺 had his car delivered to his hotel and collected at the airport — "the car was in perfect condition, low mileage, clean inside and out"

🤝 Nadezda 🇷🇺 needed an extra day and it was no problem — just paid the daily rate with no fuss. No deposit, no credit card required, cash on the spot

🤝 Sergei 🇷🇺 had connection problems at the airport — paid in cash, no issues. For 10 days with full insurance, the total was "less than 300 dollars"

Where to rent a car in Turkey

TakeCars has suppliers across Turkey's major airports and cities. The most popular pickup spots include Istanbul (both Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen), Antalya, Izmir, Bodrum, Dalaman, Trabzon, Alanya, and Ankara.

One-way rentals are available between most cities — pick up in Antalya, drop off in Istanbul, or grab a car in Izmir and return it at Dalaman airport. Several renters mention how smooth this was, including Anna 🇷🇺 who picked up in Antalya and returned in Mersin. Many owners also deliver directly to your hotel and collect the car when you're done.

Customer reviews

Evgenii 🇷🇺 — "I received the car at Istanbul airport in 5 minutes without any problems, and gave it back there in 5 minutes as well. Drove more than 800 km to the Aegean Sea and back, consumption about 5 litres. No deposit, full insurance and unlimited mileage is great."

Jakub 🇵🇱 — "The driver met us at the airport and took us to the rental center, everything took about 15 minutes and we were on our way. The car is excellent, communication with the company is also top notch."

Ihar 🇧🇾 — "Everything was fast, clear and all conditions of the contract were fulfilled! Tolga was pleasant in communication, answered all questions, we received a clean and serviceable car. Our trip was comfortable and unforgettable."

Sergei 🇷🇺 — "The rental cost is one of the lowest. It allowed me to take a car with full insurance. For 10 days the price was less than 300 dollars, which is very budget."

Peugeot 508 in Turkey

Everything went well, they provided a Mercedes c200d instead of a Peugeot, but we were fine with that. Thank you! The only thing is that the company forgot to put a child seat in the car and I had to go to the other end of Istanbul to get it. No one offered to bring it or somehow deliver it, want I paid money for it

Citroen C3 in Turkey

Everything went great with the rental. There were no problems either with the conclusion of the contract, or with the car's haircut, or with its operation. The only thing is that together with the Citroen we were given a fiat of the same class. But everything suited us.

it wasn't a Peugeot, it was a Fiat. And the fact that the trunk of the car did not open created a lot of problems for us!

Fiat Egea Multijet in Turkey

First of all, I want to say a big thank you! The only service that we managed to find, with the possibility of paying with a Russian prepaid card and a cash deposit in the current situation in the world, thank you for keeping the opportunity for everyone to travel without barriers! Renting a car left mixed feelings. Starting with the late service representative in the rental car for an hour, but by a happy coincidence, our flight was also delayed by 40 minutes. Secondly, on the site we booked a car on diesel, arrived on gasoline. We were pleased that despite the complete lack of knowledge of the English language of the service representative, friends or colleagues of this representative spoke to us in Russian on the phone. The journey turned out to be truly magical thanks to the car. I managed to visit many places, enjoy the local driving style, so to speak, immerse myself completely in Turkish culture. Unlimited mileage has become the main parameter when choosing a service, and here it is included in car rental, you didn’t have to pay anything extra. The car itself is in good condition, it was a pleasure to drive. With pleasure we will use your services many, many more times when we are in Turkey, thank you!!! Thank you very much for the excellent service and development of tourism in your amazing country!

Skoda Scala in Turkey

We rented a Skoda Scala, but as we were told it was in an accident before our rental, so we were given a Toyota Corola. The car itself was a class above (I guess) but also quite "tired": 1. The brakes worked badly - the pedal was too soft and the car braked at the very last moment 2. the interior was dirty (with trash from previous renters and a dusty interior) 3. On the body almost all elements were damaged (it did not affect the driving qualities and we were not asked for them, but the moment of aesthetics is still important)))) In general, the car coped with its task - took us to all the planned places).

RENTACARANYWHERE
Rental car on a coastal road in Turkey with turquoise Mediterranean Sea view
  • 📋 Simple terms, no fine print

Every listing shows the full price, deposit, and insurance before you book. No counter surprises, no pressure to buy extras. The price includes insurance, delivery, and taxes — locked in before you book.

  • 💬 Direct contact with your owner

Message your car owner directly through TakeCars. Renters coordinate airport pickups at 3 AM, change return locations mid-trip, and ask about HGS tolls — all via WhatsApp. A person, not a call centre.

  • 🚗 Free upgrades when available

Turkey is one of our top countries for free class upgrades. Booked a Dacia Sandero, got an Opel Mokka. Reserved a Fiat, received a Toyota Corolla. A perk of renting from local suppliers who want to keep you happy.

What you should know before driving in Turkey

Turkey drives on the right. Roads are excellent, signs are duplicated in English, and international road markings apply — though the stop sign reads "DUR". Local drivers can be assertive, so stay calm and attentive. Speed limits: 50 km/h in towns, 90 km/h on rural roads, 120 km/h on motorways. Blood alcohol limit is 0.50 promille. Foreign drivers can use their home licence for up to 6 months (IDP required for non-Latin alphabet countries).

Full driving guide: rules, police, fines, and tips for first-timers →

Toll roads

Turkey's motorways (otoyol) and all Bosphorus crossings are tolled electronically via HGS stickers — no cash accepted at the gates. Most TakeCars rental cars have HGS fitted; just tell your owner to activate it before your trip. Tolls are deducted from your deposit on return. Free alternative roads exist parallel to most motorways if you prefer to skip tolls.

Toll prices, HGS setup, and motorway routes →

Fuel and parking

Fuel costs around 55–63 TRY per litre (~$1.40 USD) for both gasoline and diesel. Stations (Petrol Ofisi, Shell, BP, Opet) are plentiful — most have attendants, and you can say "dolu depo" for a full tank. In Istanbul, use paid garages (10–20 TRY/hour) or free lots near shopping centres; on-street parking is managed by attendants in yellow vests. Coastal resorts have easier parking but it fills up in summer.

Fuel station tips, parking rules, and fine amounts →

Insurance on TakeCars

Every car includes basic third-party liability (TPL) at no extra cost. You can upgrade to CDW, Super CDW, or Full Damage Waiver (FDW) for near-zero excess — cars with FDW are tagged "zero deposit." Evgenii 🇷🇺 highlighted this: his Istanbul rental came with no deposit, full insurance, and unlimited mileage — everything upfront.

Staying connected

Three providers: Turkcell (best coverage for road trips), Vodafone, and Turk Telekom. Tourist SIMs cost 1,000–1,700 TRY (~€26–45) for 28 days — buy from official shops, not street sellers. Free Wi-Fi is available at airports, cafés, and shopping centres. Download offline maps before heading into mountain areas.
