Car rental in Alanya offers a quick escape from all-inclusive resorts for your own flexible itinerary, as well as a comfortable base during the winter months. Alanya is the easternmost of the major resorts on the Riviera. With mild weather year-round, the city has developed one of the largest permanent German and European expat communities along the coast — in Tosmur, Kestel and Mahmutlar.
Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport (GZP) is just 35 km from the city centre. It takes only twenty-five minutes from Cleopatra Beach to the runway — rare convenience for a coastal resort.
The D400, the main coastal road towards Side, Manavgat and beyond, is completely toll-free — no HGS surprises in the region. The rental market in Alanya operates year-round: around twenty operators remain active in both winter and summer, and off-season prices are typically 30–50% lower than in August.
Where to pick up the car
There are two main ways to collect your car in Alanya: at Gazipaşa Airport or with delivery to your hotel. Both options work smoothly — the choice usually depends on your flight logistics.
Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport (GZP)
GZP is a small regional airport 33–41 km from the city centre. The drive takes 25–40 minutes along the D400 — no switchbacks or complex junctions. Direct seasonal charters from Europe land here (Jet2, TUI, Eurowings, AnexTour). Around twenty rental operators have desks in the terminal: Hellocar, Nissa, Garenta, global chains, AllMeet and others.
A couple flying in on a late TUI charter were on the D400 within fifteen minutes of clearing the gate — the Hellocar desk sits just a few metres past the exit, with no shuttle bus involved.
Hotel delivery
If your flight lands elsewhere, or you would rather skip the airport altogether, most local suppliers will deliver the car to your hotel reception. Central Alanya and Cleopatra Beach are usually free. Mahmutlar, Kestel, Tosmur, Konaklı and İncekum are usually free or €5–10. Avsallar and Okurcalar are €10–20 depending on distance. The car is collected from the same address at the end of the rental.

Where to drive from Alanya
Alanya is ideally located for a series of day trips west along the coast — all on the toll-free D400.
The standard pattern for all-inclusive guests: 4–5 days at the hotel and 2–3 days of car hire for the Side — Aspendos — Manavgat loop. It fits neatly into a one-week trip and covers the region's must-sees.
Manavgat is 50 km / 50 minutes away (the waterfall and river boat trips). Side is 65 km / about an hour (the Apollo Temple at sunset, the Roman theatre, the old town beach). Aspendos is 95 km / 1.5 hours (the best-preserved Roman amphitheatre in the world, ticket ₺200–300). Antalya and Kaleiçi are 130 km / 1h45 — a half-day in the old town.
Hire versus hotel excursion is straightforward. The Side–Aspendos–Manavgat hotel package runs €30–50 per person; a family of four pays €120–200. An economy car at €25–35 plus €15 of petrol covers the same route for everyone, with sunset at the Apollo Temple included at no extra cost.
Further afield: Pamukkale is 310 km and 4–4.5 hours each way; as a day trip it's exhausting, so most travellers stay overnight. Cappadocia is 600 km / 8–9 hours, only realistic as a road trip with an overnight in Konya. West — Olympos, Çıralı, Kemer, Kaş, Fethiye, Bodrum — is a long but scenic drive along the D400.

Driving in Alanya
Alanya is one of the easier places on the coast for a foreign driver: traffic is moderate, the roads are good, and the main D400 is toll-free.
Up to Alanya Castle
The road up to Alanya Kalesi is a narrow paved switchback that climbs 250 metres. Any hire car can manage it, but it calls for a calm pace. Paid parking at the top is around ₺50–100 a day; the combined castle and Red Tower ticket costs ₺200–300. The car park fills by eleven in summer — go in the morning.
A guest in a Renault Clio crawled up at 25 km/h, kept the mirrors folded back on the tightest hairpin and parked easily at 9:30. By the time they came back down at noon, the lot was full and three cars were waiting at the gate.
Parking in town
Central Alanya (Damlataş, Saray) has municipal paid parking at ₺25–50 per hour. Free spaces sit further west towards Cleopatra Beach, ten minutes on foot. Atatürk Cad. parking near the beach is ₺40–80 a day. Most resort hotels include free guest parking.
Scooters and Bar Street
On summer evenings at Bar Street, around the harbour and in Long Beach there's heavy scooter traffic — riders often appear from the right with little warning. If your evening involves bars, walk or take a taxi.
