Car hire in Marmaris works differently from most Turkish resorts. The town has no airport of its own — everyone flies into Dalaman (DLM), 95 km away. Most UK package guests take a transfer to the hotel first and only hire a car later, usually for one or two days for specific trips around the peninsula.
“Marmaris isn’t really a full-week self-drive destination. It’s a package holiday in Içmeler or the centre, plus a hire car for day trips to Datça, Dalyan or over the hill to Turunç.”
Marmaris itself is more than one spot — it’s a small peninsula. There’s the centre with the Marina, a flat 8 km coastal stretch to Içmeler, and then the mountain pass rising to 350 metres on the way to Turunç. Beyond that lie Söğüt, Orhaniye, Kız Kumu and the long, winding road out to Datça.

For Marmaris the default choice is Dalaman. It’s 95 km / 1.5 hours via the D400 and D550 — mostly dual carriageway with the final 30 km running beautifully along the coast. All the major international chains (Sixt, Avis, Hertz, Europcar, Enterprise, Budget) and a strong line-up of locals have desks right inside the DLM arrivals hall. KAYAK prices for March–April 2026 start from around $24–30 a day for an economy car (Fiat Panda or Renault Clio).
When Bodrum (BJV) can make sense
Bodrum-Milas is 165 km / 2.5 hours from Marmaris. It only becomes interesting in two situations: your Jet2 or TUI charter is noticeably cheaper into BJV, or you’re planning a combined Bodrum-plus-Marmaris trip with a one-way drop-off in Bodrum.

Marmaris is divided into several zones with different delivery economics. Local operators treat hotel meet-and-greet as standard, but the price depends on which side of the hill your resort sits.
Centre and Içmeler: usually free
Central Marmaris (Marina, Long Beach, Bar Street) and Içmeler (8 km along the flat coastal D400) form the core delivery zone. The big resorts — Grand Yazici, Marti Resort, D-Resort Grand Azur, Cook’s Club Adakoy — all receive the car at reception with no extra charge.
Turunç and beyond: a fixed fee for the pass
Turunç is only 8 km as the crow flies, but the road winds 20 km / 30–45 minutes over a 350-metre mountain pass. Delivery there costs €15–30 because the driver spends ninety minutes round-trip. Söğüt and Kumlubük run €20–40. Orhaniye and Kız Kumu to the west are €15–25 along the D400.
