For paved mountain roads — yes. A standard sedan handles the Kutaisi–Mestia road up to Zugdidi, and the Caucasus foothills around Racha. For upper Svaneti (above Mestia), Tusheti or remote off-road tracks, a 4WD is strongly recommended and standard rental insurance does not cover off-road damage.
The catalogue is shared across Georgia, so the same cars that you see from Tbilisi or Batumi are visible from Kutaisi too. Entry-level prices start from around USD 60/day. Kutaisi to Tbilisi is about 220 km / 3–3.5 hours via the E60. Kutaisi to Batumi is about 150 km / 2–2.5 hours, also via the E60. Kutaisi sits between the two cities, making it a convenient starting point for a cross-country trip.
Prometheus Cave (40 km / 1 hour), Sataplia Nature Reserve (15 km / 20 minutes), Martvili Canyon (50 km / 1 hour) and Okatse Canyon (60 km / 1h 15m) are all within a short drive. A standard sedan handles all of them; only off-road forest tracks require a 4WD.
