Citroen Space Tourer in Turkey

The car is new, powerful, clean. We were given the car that we had booked. The only disadvantage: we ordered a car to the airport. For some reason the drivers were taken to the office for a very long time. 7 people waited outside, including a baby, after a night flight, all tired. And the car was given to us at the office, not at the airport, as it should have been. We often travel and book a car, such registration has not yet seen, very long. And in general, only positive feedback on the car

Fiat Egea in Turkey

Everything was fine. There was a small delay in the airport when we were trying to find a persn who are going to meet us and bring back to office. But except this all other procedures were quite fast. A men in office was very gentle and do a lot of efforts to find a baby seat for us which fits for my child. Finaly I got brand new nice seat. The car qulity was fine, I do not have any complaints. Drop off procedure was also very fast and gentle.

Fiat Egea Multijet in Turkey

I rented a car on takecars.com Everything went well with the car rental. We got the exact model we ordered on the website. The delivery to the airport was delayed by 30 minutes due to a traffic jam at the entrance to the airport, but it was not a big problem. It was the first time I ordered a car through this site, the experience was positive, I can recommend it.

Should I inspect and document the car at pickup?

Yes — always. Walk around the car with the pickup agent, note any existing scratches, dents, wheel damage or interior marks on the handover form, and take a 360° video plus close-up photos with the timestamp visible. This protects you from being charged for pre-existing damage at return. The same applies at drop-off.

Can I extend the rental and what is the minimum rental period?

Minimum rental period is usually 24 hours — shorter bookings aren't accepted. To extend, contact the provider through your booking before the original return time and agree a new return date; you'll be charged at the same daily rate for additional days. Extending after the return time has passed is possible but usually carries a late-return surcharge.

Is insurance included in the rental price?

Yes. Third-Party Liability (TPL) — which covers damage you cause to other vehicles and people — is included on every car. Most cars additionally include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Full Damage Waiver (FDW — zero excess) free. Super CDW, Theft Protection (TP) and Personal Accident (PA) are also available free on parts of the fleet. The exact coverage for each car is listed on the car card.

How much is the security deposit?

Typically from around USD 100 for economy cars up to USD 1,000–2,000 for premium and SUVs. A meaningful share of the catalogue — particularly in Istanbul, Bodrum and Marmaris — is offered with no deposit at all. Look for the 'No Deposit' badge on the car card or filter by it in search.

What is the minimum age to rent a car in Turkey?

21 years old with at least 1 year of driving experience for economy and standard cars; 23+ with 2+ years for SUVs and larger cars; 25+ with 3+ years for premium and supercars. A young-driver fee may apply on about half of the catalogue — the surcharge (if any) is shown on the car card before you book.

What documents do I need to rent a car in Turkey?

A passport with a valid Turkey entry stamp or visa, your national driving licence and — for some licence types — an International Driving Permit (IDP). Originals are required at pickup; photos on a phone aren't accepted.

Do I need an International Driving Permit (IDP) in Turkey?

If your national licence is in Latin script — from EU countries, the UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and similar — you can usually rent on the national licence alone for trips up to 6 months. If your licence is in Cyrillic (RU, KZ, BY, UA, UZ and most CIS) or other non-Latin scripts, an IDP is required. Without it, most providers will refuse pickup.

Are automatic transmission cars available in Turkey?

Yes, but manual is the base tier in Turkey and coastal budget categories (Antalya, Bodrum, Dalaman) have a smaller share of automatics. In Istanbul automatics dominate, in tourist coast they're minority. If you need automatic, filter by it in search and book early — automatic availability is often the first thing to sell out in peak season.

What are the cheapest, typical and top car rental prices in Turkey?

Entry-level economy cars start from around USD 22/day (Renault Clio, Fiat Egea and similar). The typical rate across the catalogue is around USD 45–55/day. Premium SUVs and sedans sit at USD 150–400/day, and supercars (BMW M, Porsche) start from roughly USD 500/day. Coastal tourist cities (Antalya, Bodrum, Dalaman) often have the lowest entry prices.

Can I take a rental car across Turkey's borders (Georgia, Bulgaria, Greece)?

Not at the moment. Cross-border travel is currently unavailable on our Turkey catalogue — even popular routes like Turkey → Georgia (Sarpi) or Turkey → Bulgaria (Kapitan Andreevo) aren't supported by the current insurance setup. If a cross-border route is essential, contact support before booking to check whether an individual arrangement is feasible.

Can I rent a car in Turkey without a credit card?

Yes. The Turkey catalogue includes cars that accept cash, a debit card or a credit card for the deposit, plus cars that require no deposit at all. Use the 'Payment method' filter in search or open the 'Deposit' block on each car card to see which methods that specific car accepts.

How does the HGS electronic toll system work in Turkey?

HGS (Hızlı Geçiş Sistemi) is Turkey's automatic toll system, used on motorways and bridges — including the Istanbul Bosphorus bridges (FSM, July 15 Martyrs, Yavuz Sultan Selim) and major toll highways. Every rental car has an active HGS tag, so you pay nothing at the gate. The rental company bills your crossings after the trip plus a small administrative fee.

How are traffic fines handled on a rental car in Turkey?

Traffic fines in Turkey are registered against the car's plate, so they go to the rental provider first. You'll receive the charge plus a small administrative fee (typically USD 20–40). Fines can take 2–4 weeks to appear, so keep your payment card valid for that period. Speed cameras are common, especially on coastal roads.
